Midland Bank PLC has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Axentec PLC, a subsidiary of Robi Axiata, to adopt advanced cloud technology for its data centre management and computing requirements.
The agreement was signed at the head office of Midland Bank PLC in Gulshan-2, Dhaka, according to a press release. Imtiaz U Ahmed, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Midland Bank, and Md. Adil Hossain Noble, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Axentec, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
Axentec recently introduced what it describes as the country’s first locally hosted Tier-4 cloud platform, branded “Axentec Cloud”. The Tier-4 classification generally refers to the highest level of data centre infrastructure resilience, ensuring fault tolerance and continuous availability, with minimal risk of service interruption. The launch represents a development in Bangladesh’s digital infrastructure ecosystem, particularly in the area of locally hosted enterprise-grade cloud services.
Under the terms of the agreement, Midland Bank will utilise the Axentec Cloud platform to support its core computing operations and data centre management. The collaboration is intended to enhance the bank’s operational efficiency, strengthen data security, and improve the scalability of its technology infrastructure. These improvements are expected to support the bank’s ongoing digital transformation initiatives and enable it to deliver more efficient and reliable services to its customers.
Axentec will provide the necessary cloud and computing services to meet the bank’s requirements, including infrastructure support and network capabilities. The arrangement reflects a broader trend within Bangladesh’s financial sector towards adopting cloud-based solutions to modernise legacy systems and improve service delivery.
Senior representatives from both organisations attended the signing ceremony. Among them were Md. Nazmul Huda Sarkar, Deputy Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer of Midland Bank, and Istiaque Ahmed Bhuiyan, Senior General Manager for Advanced Networking and Cloud Business at Axentec, along with other officials.
While the MoU outlines the framework for cooperation, further implementation steps are expected to follow as Midland Bank integrates the cloud platform into its operational environment.
