JEBAB Announces New 131-Member Committee for Private Bank Unit

The Nationalist Bankers’ Association of Bangladesh (JEBAB) has announced a new central committee for its Private Bank Unit, comprising 131 members. The full committee was revealed after a long process of preparation and planning.

Saiful Islam Masum, Vice President at City Bank, has been appointed as the President, while Miraz Uddin Chowdhury, an officer at SBSC Bank PLC, has been named General Secretary of the newly-formed committee. The official approval for the committee was given yesterday, Sunday, at 6 p.m. during a ceremony at JEBAB’s central office in Motijheel, Dhaka. The approval was granted by JEBAB’s Central Convenor Iqbal Hossain and Member Secretary Md. Mostafizur Rahman Mostak.

Other key figures in the committee include Rashed Ansari from Brac Bank, appointed Senior Vice President, Nesar Ahmed from Dhaka Bank, as Senior Joint General Secretary, and Nurul Amin Molla from Brac Bank, who will serve as the 1st Vice President.

Previously, a 61-member convening committee had been in charge since March, and their tireless efforts were instrumental in the formation of this full committee. Among the individuals credited with this achievement are Omar Faruk Ami, Manik, and Omar Faruk from IBBL.

The announcement of the new committee has instilled a sense of enthusiasm and hope among banking professionals across the country who believe in the nationalist ideals of the association. Bankers are hopeful that this new leadership will create a renaissance in the banking sector, establishing professional dignity and securing their rightful demands.

JEBAB has stated that it is not only a professional platform but also an ideological force inspired by nationalist principles. The organisation is committed to working on the foundation of unity, integrity, and responsibility to establish bankers’ rights, improve the overall work environment, and enhance the quality of banking services.

In a joint statement, President Saiful Islam Masum and General Secretary Miraz Uddin Chowdhury outlined their vision: “We desire a banking system where there is no room for political influence, irregularities, or injustice. Our primary goal is to establish a professional, ethical, and idealistic banking culture.”

They further emphasised that the organisation would work to modernise, make the sector more employee-friendly, and promote transparency within the banking system. JEBAB’s new leadership is optimistic that by combining nationalism, professionalism, and public service, they can build a strong and democratic culture within Bangladesh’s banking sector.
