Modhumoti Bank PLC has reinforced its commitment to Shariah-compliant finance by organising an in-depth professional workshop on Islamic Banking Fundamentals: Concept, Operational and Investment Methodology. The day-long session was held on Saturday at the bank’s head office in Gulshan and brought together senior leadership, divisional heads and branch-level managers to strengthen institutional capacity in Islamic banking.
The workshop was inaugurated in the presence of Mr Md Shafiul Azam, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Modhumoti Bank, who attended as Chief Guest. In his address, he underscored the growing relevance of Islamic banking within Bangladesh’s financial sector, noting its emphasis on ethical finance, risk-sharing and real-economy linkages. He highlighted the bank’s strategic intent to expand Shariah-based products and services in a manner that aligns with regulatory expectations and customer trust.
The programme was further enriched by the presence of Mr Shahnawaj Chowdhury, Additional Managing Director, and Mr Arab Fazlur Rahman, Deputy Managing Director and Chief Business Officer, who joined as Special Guests. Senior executives including Mr Arif Hasan Khan, SEVP and Chief Risk Officer; Mr Md Shafiqur Rahman, SEVP and Head of Human Resources Division; and Mr Nizam Uddin, AVP and Head of Islamic Banking Division, also participated actively. Members of the Management Committee, divisional heads, executives and branch managers from across the network attended the session, reflecting broad institutional engagement.
Designed as a comprehensive capacity-building initiative, the training focused on the conceptual foundations of Islamic banking, its operational mechanics and Shariah-compliant investment methodologies. Particular emphasis was placed on profit-and-loss sharing principles, asset-backed financing, risk management considerations and compliance with Shariah governance frameworks. Participants were also exposed to practical case discussions aimed at translating theory into operational practice, thereby enhancing service quality and consistency across branches.
According to bank officials, the workshop forms part of a wider human capital development strategy intended to improve operational efficiency and ensure that Islamic banking services are delivered with integrity, transparency and adherence to ethical standards. By equipping managers and executives with updated knowledge and practical tools, Modhumoti Bank aims to meet the evolving expectations of customers seeking Shariah-based financial solutions.
As Islamic banking continues to expand its footprint in Bangladesh, initiatives such as this training programme signal Modhumoti Bank’s intention to position itself as a competent and responsible participant in the sector, supported by skilled professionals and robust governance practices.
