BB Announces 28 Bank Holidays for 2026

DHAKA, Nov 16, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh Bank (BB) has officially released the holiday calendar for 2026, revealing that scheduled banks across the country will observe 28 bank holidays throughout the year, excluding regular weekly closures.

The list, which includes details of each holiday, was issued by the Department of Off-Site Supervision of Bangladesh Bank and sent today to the Managing Directors and Chief Executive Officers of all scheduled banks.

This marks an increase from 27 holidays in 2025 and 24 holidays in 2024. The calendar predominantly features religious festivals and national commemorations.

The first holiday of 2026 will be observed on 4 February for Shab-e-Barat. Later that month, banks will close for Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day on 21 February.

The longest breaks occur during the two major Eids. For Eid-ul-Fitr, banks will be closed for five days, from 19 March to 23 March, including Juma-tul-Bida (the day before Eid), the day of Eid itself, and the following two days. Two of these days coincide with regular weekend holidays.

Similarly, for Eid-ul-Adha, banks will observe a five-day closure from 26 May to 31 May, with two of these days falling on weekends.

The holiday schedule applies to all scheduled banks and is based on a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on 9 November.
