A complaint has been filed against an agent banking outlet of Dutch-Bangla Bank, Messrs Rahat Enterprise, for allegedly absconding with nearly Tk 60 lakh of customer deposits from more than 50 account holders.
On Sunday, 2 November, a group of affected customers gathered in front of Dutch-Bangla Bank’s Bhola district branch, located on Bhola Sadar Road, demanding the immediate return of their deposited money.
The customers explained that Messrs Rahat Enterprise, located in the Madhakaji Bazar area of Mehendiganj in Barisal, was operating under Dutch-Bangla Bank’s agent banking system. Trusting the agent, they deposited their hard-earned savings with the enterprise. However, on 8 July, the proprietor, Mohammad Ibrahim Jabbar, and manager, Mohammad Fahad Hossain Minhaj, allegedly fled with the entire sum of approximately Tk 60 lakh. Since then, all operations at the agent banking outlet have ceased.
The disgruntled customers have urgently called for the return of their deposits, expressing concern that the money, which they had entrusted to the agent banking service in good faith, has been stolen.
