Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) has entered into a strategic partnership with Proyash Institute of Special Education, aiming to enhance educational infrastructure and expand support services for children with special needs in Bangladesh. The collaboration underscores a growing commitment from the private sector to contribute meaningfully to inclusive education and social development.
The partnership was formalised at a ceremony held at EBL’s head office in Dhaka, where Ziaul Karim, Head of Communications and External Affairs and Head of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Desk, handed over a cheque to Colonel Md. Altaf Ali, Executive Director and Principal of Proyash Institute. The financial contribution is expected to bolster the institution’s capacity to deliver improved learning environments and specialised services.
Proyash Institute of Special Education is a non-profit charitable organisation administered by the Bangladesh Army under the guidance of the Chief of Army Staff. The institution is widely recognised for its holistic approach to supporting children with diverse developmental needs. Its programmes encompass Inclusive and Equitable Quality Education, skill-based training, therapeutic services, and a variety of extra-curricular activities designed to foster confidence, independence, and social integration.
Speaking at the event, Ziaul Karim praised the institute’s longstanding efforts, noting that Proyash has been instrumental in providing therapy, vocational training, and life skills to children who require specialised care. He emphasised that such initiatives not only empower the children themselves but also offer vital support to families navigating long-term challenges. He added that EBL is honoured to be associated with what he described as a deeply impactful and humane initiative.
Colonel Md. Altaf Ali expressed gratitude for the bank’s support, stating that the contribution would significantly strengthen Proyash’s ongoing efforts to equip students with essential skills and improve their employability prospects. He highlighted the importance of fostering social acceptance and creating opportunities for individuals with special needs to lead dignified and fulfilling lives within an inclusive society.
The event was attended by senior representatives from both organisations. Among those present were Afroza Sultana, Vice Principal of Proyash; Kawsari Warda, Head of Human Resources; and Sultan Ahmed, Head Teacher. Representing EBL were Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, Company Secretary; Major Md. Abdus Salam (Retd), Head of Administration; and Md. Maskur Reza, Head of Business Information Systems.
The partnership reflects a broader trend of collaboration between financial institutions and social organisations to address educational disparities and promote inclusive growth. As Bangladesh continues to advance its development agenda, such initiatives are expected to play a crucial role in ensuring that no segment of society is left behind.
