Fire at Grameen Bank Office in Lakshmipur

Lakshmipur, 29 December 2025 – A fire was deliberately set at the Grameen Bank office in Laharkandi Union, Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila, in the early hours of Sunday, 16 November 2025, local authorities reported. The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 AM, but thanks to the swift response of local residents and the bank’s security personnel, the fire was brought under control before causing any significant damage.

According to Md. Hanif, the bank’s security guard on duty, the fire was started by an unknown individual or group who had piled rubbish in front of the bank and set it alight. Upon noticing the smoke, Hanif raised the alarm, prompting nearby residents to rush to the scene. Together, they successfully extinguished the flames, preventing the fire from spreading and causing structural damage to the building.

The bank manager, Md. Rezaul Karim, confirmed that the quick detection by the security guard ensured the incident was promptly contained. He reassured that no property within the bank premises was harmed, and normal operations remained unaffected.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the deliberate fire, aiming to identify and apprehend those responsible. Local law enforcement and fire services are cooperating closely with bank officials to gather evidence and review security measures.
