Jessore Embraces Digital Future via IFIC Bank Initiative

A landmark event took place at the Jessore Software Technology Park on Tuesday, 23rd December, as IFIC Bank PLC spearheaded a comprehensive drive to accelerate the ‘Cashless Bangladesh’ initiative. Acting as the designated Lead Bank under the direct supervision of Bangladesh Bank, IFIC orchestrated a series of strategic programmes aimed at transitioning the local economy from its traditional cash-based roots toward a sophisticated digital framework. The campaign brought together high-ranking central bank officials, district administrators, and local business leaders to chart a course for a more inclusive and transparent financial future in the region.

The day’s activities began with an awareness rally that traversed Jessore’s main thoroughfares, successfully capturing the attention of local traders and the general public. This public display was followed by an in-depth seminar led by Arif Hossain Khan, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank. As the chief guest, Khan emphasized that the ‘Cashless Bangladesh’ vision is a cornerstone of the nation’s technological evolution, designed to bring secure, efficient, and traceable financial services to every citizen’s doorstep. He noted that regional participation is essential for the national success of digital transaction systems.

The seminar also featured a robust panel discussion and a dedicated question-and-answer session. This allowed participants to raise practical concerns regarding digital literacy, transaction security, and the reliability of digital infrastructure. Rafeza Akhter Kanta, Director of the Payment Systems Department at Bangladesh Bank, addressed these queries, highlighting how a cashless ecosystem reduces the risks associated with carrying physical currency and simplifies the accounting process for small-scale entrepreneurs.

High-Level Representation and Leadership

The summit’s influence was underscored by the presence of a diverse group of key decision-makers who are currently shaping the country’s financial landscape.

Beyond the theoretical discussions, the event offered a practical dimension through dedicated bank booths. Here, officials provided live demonstrations of the ‘Bangla QR’ code payment system, showing users how a single mobile application can facilitate instant transfers. This hands-on approach proved vital in demystifying digital payments for those previously hesitant to move away from cash. By the end of the day, it was clear that the collaborative efforts of IFIC Bank and its partners had set a new benchmark for regional financial outreach, positioning Jessore as a pioneer for digital banking in the southwestern corridor.
