Limited Banking Ensures RMG Workers’ Eid Payments

In anticipation of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, a limited banking schedule has been implemented on Thursday, 19 March, across key industrial areas in Bangladesh to facilitate the timely disbursement of salaries and allowances to ready-made garment (RMG) workers. Following directives from Bangladesh Bank, selected bank branches will operate with a reduced workforce to ensure essential financial services continue smoothly while maintaining staff safety.

Operational Schedule and Areas

Bank branches in major garment hubs, including Dhaka city, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj, and Chittagong, will remain open from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Customers are advised to complete their transactions between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm, allowing sufficient time for the Zuhr prayers and helping manage crowd flow efficiently.

The primary objectives of this limited banking operation are:

  1. Ensuring timely payment of salaries and allowances to RMG workers.

  2. Maintaining essential financial transactions in industrial zones.

  3. Guaranteeing safe and orderly operations for bank employees.

Customer Guidelines

Bank customers are urged to avoid visiting branches unless necessary. Those who need to complete transactions should do so between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm. Adhering to these guidelines will ensure workers receive their payments efficiently while allowing bank staff to operate safely and smoothly.

According to the latest figures, over 500,000 RMG workers are expected to directly benefit from today’s limited banking operations, with approximately 250,000 workers in the Dhaka-Narayanganj region alone. This special arrangement plays a crucial role in supporting timely salary distribution ahead of Eid celebrations, helping workers and their families receive financial support without disruption.
