Mahtab Osmani Takes Helm as Deputy Managing Director

Bank Asia PLC has announced a significant leadership addition with the appointment of Mr Mahtab Osmani as the new Deputy Managing Director and Head of Corporate Business, International Banking, and Export Finance. His appointment became effective on 25 November 2025 and is being seen within the banking industry as a strategic step to reinforce the bank’s position in corporate and cross-border financial services.

Mr Osmani joins Bank Asia after an exceptional 24-year career at Standard Chartered Bank, where he built a reputation for analytical depth, commercial acumen, and leadership excellence. Starting his journey as an analyst, he progressed steadily through increasingly senior roles within the Corporate and Investment Banking Division. Over the years, he headed two of the bank’s most critical business verticals: Global Corporates and Large Corporate Coverage, serving as Executive Director in both capacities at different times. His leadership in these areas positioned him as a key figure in driving corporate banking growth in Bangladesh.

Throughout his career, Mr Osmani played instrumental roles in structuring and executing some of Bangladesh’s most notable financing transactions. His experience spans a broad spectrum of financial instruments, including ECA-supported facilities, multilateral-backed financing, syndicated loans, corporate bonds, structured trade solutions, and initiatives promoting sustainable finance. Many of these transactions have had a notable impact on Bangladesh’s infrastructure, industrial expansion, and export competitiveness.

His academic background is equally distinguished. Mr Osmani holds both a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and an Executive MBA from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka—one of the country’s premier business schools. Complementing his academic achievements, he is also a CFA Charterholder, symbolising his expertise in financial analysis, investment management, and ethical professional standards. Additionally, he serves as a Director of the CFA Society Bangladesh, contributing to the advancement of professional excellence in the country’s financial sector.

Industry observers believe that Mr Osmani’s arrival brings strategic value to Bank Asia at a time when the bank is expanding its footprint in international banking, corporate solutions, and export-oriented financial services. His leadership is expected to accelerate growth in areas such as sustainable financing, trade-linked credit programmes, and global corporate partnerships.

With his rich experience and proven ability to lead large teams and complex transactions, Mr Osmani is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping Bank Asia’s next phase of corporate banking transformation. The bank anticipates that his contributions will strengthen client relationships, enhance product sophistication, and drive innovation across its international and export finance divisions.
