Midland Bank Advances Women Leadership Through Capacity Building

Midland Bank Limited has further strengthened its commitment to gender inclusion and professional excellence by organising a specialised workshop titled “Leadership for Women in the Workplace.” Held at the bank’s training institute, the initiative reflects a broader shift within Bangladesh’s financial sector towards recognising the strategic importance of empowering women in leadership roles.

The workshop brought together 41 female officers representing diverse branches and operational units, creating a collaborative environment for learning, networking, and leadership enhancement. The programme was formally inaugurated by Zubaed Ur Rahman, who highlighted that investing in women’s professional development is essential for building a resilient and future-ready organisation.

In his opening address, Rahman emphasised that gender-inclusive leadership is no longer optional but a core business priority. He pointed out that organisations with diverse leadership structures consistently demonstrate improved governance, more balanced decision-making, and stronger financial performance—an increasingly recognised trend in global banking and financial services.

Strengthening Leadership Through Expert Guidance

The workshop featured an experienced panel of facilitators, including Dr Mohammad Tajul Islam of the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM), Md Mazharul Islam from Janata Bank Limited, and Sushanta Shekhar Dev.

Through a series of interactive sessions, participants explored key areas such as leadership effectiveness, strategic decision-making, career progression, and the evolving role of women in the workplace. The discussions were designed to equip attendees with practical tools and insights necessary to navigate the complexities of a rapidly evolving banking environment.

Dr Tajul Islam underscored the importance of continuous professional development, noting that lifelong learning and certification are vital in an era shaped by digital transformation and regulatory change. Meanwhile, Mazharul Islam shared practical perspectives from his experience in the public banking sector, focusing on ethical leadership, transparency, and accountability. Dev encouraged participants to actively seek leadership opportunities within their organisations and to contribute meaningfully to strategic decision-making processes.

Speakers collectively observed that women in Bangladesh’s banking industry are increasingly assuming influential roles in leadership, innovation, and policy formulation. They also stressed that inclusive workplaces—where men and women participate equally—are critical to building institutions that are not only competitive but also socially responsible.
