Modhumoti Bank organises ‘AML & CFT Conference 2025’

Modhumoti Bank PLC has hosted its flagship event, the Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML & CFT) Conference 2025, at the International Conference Centre of the Police Staff College in Mirpur, Dhaka. The event underscored the bank’s growing commitment to strengthening compliance, enhancing risk management, and supporting national efforts against financial crimes.

The conference was inaugurated by Md Mofizur Rahman Khan Chowdhury, Executive Director and Head (Current Charge) of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), who attended as the chief guest. In his keynote speech, he highlighted the evolving challenges of financial crime, stressing the importance of ensuring robust internal controls, leveraging digital surveillance tools, and cultivating a culture of ethical banking across institutions.

The event was further graced by Salahuddin Alamgir, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Modhumoti Bank PLC, and A Mannan Khan, Director of the bank, who participated as guests of honour. Both emphasised the role of banks in safeguarding the country’s financial ecosystem and reaffirmed Modhumoti Bank’s dedication to compliance excellence.

The conference was chaired by Shahnawaj Chowdhury, Additional Managing Director of the bank, who noted that combating financial crime requires continuous training, inter-agency cooperation, and a forward-looking regulatory mindset. He also praised BFIU’s guidance in strengthening anti-money laundering frameworks nationwide.

Three specialised technical sessions were conducted by distinguished resource persons:

  • Juairia Haque, Joint Director, BFIU

  • Sahalam Kazi, Joint Director, BFIU

  • Md Mahbubul Alam, Superintendent of Police and Director of Training, Bangladesh Police Staff College

Their sessions focused on emerging risks, red-flag indicators, digital fraud patterns, and global best practices in AML and CFT compliance.

One of the unique aspects of this year’s conference was its scale. Approximately 800 officials of Modhumoti Bank, representing branches from across the country, joined the conference virtually. This hybrid format ensured wider participation while maintaining operational efficiency, enabling officers at all levels to enhance their compliance knowledge.

Senior bank officials, including Arab Fazlur Rahman, Deputy Managing Director and CAMLCO, along with divisional heads, branch managers, operations managers, credit officers, and foreign trade officials from Dhaka-based branches, were also present. Their participation reflected the bank’s institution-wide approach to strengthening its AML and CFT capabilities.

The event concluded with a renewed organisational pledge to uphold transparency, align with regulatory expectations, and contribute to a safer, more resilient financial sector in Bangladesh.
