Dhaka Bank PLC has appointed Osman Ershad Fayez as its new Managing Director, marking a significant leadership transition at one of Bangladesh’s leading private-sector lenders. He formally assumed office on Sunday, 11 January, with the bank describing the appointment as a strategic milestone aimed at strengthening corporate governance, accelerating technology-led banking, and delivering sustainable long-term growth.
In a disclosure issued on Monday, 12 January through the Dhaka Stock Exchange, Dhaka Bank confirmed that regulatory approval for Fayez’s appointment had been granted by the Bangladesh Bank on 18 December. Following this clearance, the bank’s board of directors formally ratified the appointment at a board meeting, authorising him to join and assume full executive responsibilities on the same day.
Fayez brings more than three decades of experience across domestic and international banking and financial services. Prior to joining Dhaka Bank, he served as Additional Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer at Eastern Bank PLC, where he was instrumental in enhancing operational efficiency, expanding digital banking platforms, and reinforcing enterprise-wide risk management frameworks. His tenure there is widely credited with improving process discipline while supporting customer-centric innovation.
His professional career also spans senior leadership roles abroad. Fayez previously held the position of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore, where he oversaw complex multinational operations in a highly regulated financial environment. In addition, he has worked with global digital and technology-driven platforms, reflecting a strong orientation towards fintech-enabled transformation. He began his career in 1993 as a management trainee at American Express, laying the foundation for a career that bridges traditional banking and modern financial innovation.
Academically, Fayez holds an MBA from Aligarh Muslim University and has completed advanced executive education at INSEAD and the Oxford Saïd Business School. His contributions to technology leadership were internationally recognised in 2023, when he received the Legend Award at the World CIO 200 Summit. Beyond commercial achievements, he is also known for advocating gender equity and the advancement of women in the workplace, an area in which his initiatives have drawn international commendation.
Dhaka Bank’s board has expressed confidence that under Fayez’s stewardship the institution will further its digital transformation agenda, enhance customer service standards, and expand both regional and international business footprints, while maintaining prudent risk oversight in a rapidly evolving financial landscape.
