Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC has awarded scholarships to 300 poor and talented students who have passed their Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations from various parts of Bangladesh. These students are currently enrolled in the first year of degree courses in public universities, government medical colleges, and engineering universities across the country.
The scholarship recipients consist of 150 male and 150 female students. A total of BDT 38,100,000 (Thirty-Eight Million One Hundred Thousand Taka) will be distributed among the students to help cover the costs of their four-year degree programmes.
The scholarship cheques were officially handed over during a ceremony held at the bank’s corporate head office on November 19, 2025. During the ceremony, 50 students received their cheques in person.
The remaining 250 students will have their scholarship funds transferred to their respective bank accounts within the stipulated time. The Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. A.K. Azad, was the Chief Guest at the event and distributed the cheques to the students. Mr. Md. Sanaullah Shahid, Director and Chairman of the Bank Foundation, attended the event as a Special Guest. The Managing Director of Shahjalal Islami Bank, Mr. Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, presided over the ceremony, and the event was moderated by Mr. Md. Abul Bashar, SEVP & Company Secretary of the bank.
The Vice-Chairman of the Bank, Mr. Mohiuddin Ahmed, along with various directors and senior officials, including Mr. Md. Abdul Barek, Mr. Khandaker Shakib Ahmed, Engineer Md. Towhidur Rahman, Mrs. Tahera Faruque, and others, attended as special invited guests. Also present were the Additional Managing Director Mr. Imtiaz U. Ahmed, Deputy Managing Director Mr. M.M. Saiful Islam, Chief Financial Officer Mr. Md. Jafar Sadeq, and heads of several key departments.
In his speech, Chief Guest Mr. A.K. Azad stated that Shahjalal Islami Bank has been providing scholarships to meritorious yet financially disadvantaged students since 2006. He encouraged people from all walks of life to join efforts in ensuring equitable and high-quality education for all.
The Managing Director of the bank, Mr. Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, emphasised that these scholarships are not just financial aid, but also a source of motivation, courage, and encouragement for the students. He highlighted that the recognition of these students’ hard work is a testament to their perseverance despite socio-economic challenges. He concluded by urging students to pursue quality education and become the future leaders who would drive the nation forward.
